When the Past Refuses to Stay in the Past

There is something especially enjoyable about watching Amanda Schull and Brennan Elliott share the screen in Marry Go Round. From the first moments they are together, there is an easy rhythm between them that makes the story feel less like a predictable romance and more like a reunion with two people viewers genuinely want to see find their way back to each other.

Released in 2022, Marry Go Round stars Schull as Abby Foster and Elliott as Luke Walker, former high-school sweethearts whose lives unexpectedly become connected again. Abby appears to have everything arranged for the future: she is a successful executive, preparing for a move to Paris and planning to marry Edward. Then she learns that her divorce from Luke was never officially completed.

That premise gives the movie a wonderfully playful starting point, but what makes it appealing is the emotional question underneath all the complications: what happens when the life you carefully planned suddenly forces you to look honestly at the life you left behind?

The movie does not need to rely entirely on grand romantic gestures to create that feeling. Much of its charm comes from the tension between familiarity and change. Abby and Luke have history, but they are not simply the same people they were when they were younger. Their reunion gives both characters an opportunity to reconsider old memories, old choices and the possibility that some connections never disappear as completely as we imagine.

That is where Schull and Elliott become so important to the film. Their performances give the relationship a sense of warmth and playfulness that keeps the story inviting. The chemistry does not feel forced. Instead, there is a natural quality to the way they interact, which helps explain why their scenes are among the movie’s most enjoyable moments
