The 2025 Hallmark Channel original combines holiday romance with time travel, placing a spirited woman from 1905 in the middle of modern-day Newport and asking what happens when the life you thought you wanted suddenly looks very different.

Ginna Claire Mason stars as Ella, a charitable Newport socialite whose world in 1905 is shaped by tradition, family expectations, and the future others have already imagined for her. She dreams of using her wealth to create a foundation that will help people in her community, but her father has another plan: marriage to a man she has never met. Her frustration sends her out onto the water, where a comet and a heartfelt wish become the beginning of something she could never have anticipated.

That premise gives A Newport Christmas an appealing emotional question beneath all the holiday magic: How do you know whether the life chosen for you is really the life you want?

Ella’s journey works because the story is not simply about traveling from one century to another. It is about discovering that time can change the way a person sees herself. In 1905, Ella is surrounded by expectations. In 2025, she suddenly sees pieces of the world that her generation could never have imagined. Wes Brown plays Nick, a sailor and local Newport historian who becomes Ella’s unexpected guide to the modern world. Their first meeting is hardly a conventional romantic introduction. Ella believes Nick is a stowaway on her schooner, while Nick insists the boat belongs to him. Once the truth about Ella’s journey becomes clear, however, their relationship begins to shift from confusion and disbelief toward something much more personal.

That setup gives Mason and Brown room to play with a particularly enjoyable kind of romantic chemistry. Ella brings the curiosity and wonder of someone encountering the future for the first time, while Nick provides a calmer connection to the present.
