Part Two: Why Elizabeth and David Stay With Viewers
One of the most appealing elements of It Was Always You is the way it explores second chances without requiring the characters to have completely failed the first time around.
Elizabeth has followed a path that makes sense. She has made responsible choices, planned for the future and tried to build something stable. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting those things. The emotional conflict comes from realizing that stability alone cannot guarantee happiness.
David enters her life like an interruption, but eventually becomes something more meaningful: a reminder that there are parts of Elizabeth she has neglected.
That theme is surprisingly universal.
Many viewers understand the feeling of reaching a milestone only to discover that the milestone does not feel the way they imagined it would. A career, relationship, home or carefully planned future can look perfect from the outside while still leaving someone wondering whether something is missing.

That contrast also gives Hynes room to create a character who is charming without being merely charming. David’s appeal comes from the way he sees possibilities where Elizabeth sees complications. Yet the movie works best when viewers understand that neither character has the perfect answer.
The visual atmosphere supports that emotional journey. The film was shot in Victoria, Canada, giving the story an appealing backdrop that complements its romantic tone. The locations and interiors help create the cozy, polished atmosphere Hallmark audiences have come to expect, while the movie’s focus remains firmly on its characters.
There is also something nostalgic about the way It Was Always You approaches romance. It does not rely entirely on spectacle. Instead, it finds warmth in conversations, familiar places, personal memories and the gradual realization that another person can make you see your own life differently.
That is perhaps why fans continue to return to it.
In online Hallmark communities, viewers have repeatedly singled out Krakow and Hynes as a favorite pairing, with some describing the movie as one of their most-loved Hallmark romances and praising the chemistry between the leads. While fan reactions are naturally subjective, the consistency of that enthusiasm says something about the movie’s staying power.
A romance does not necessarily become memorable because every moment is perfect. Sometimes it becomes memorable because viewers become emotionally invested in the possibility of the two characters finding their way toward each other.
